ABOUT THE PACK:
The Whirlpool Hip Pack - is the pack we wanted to be on the market but couldn’t find. It is an overstuffable design without any zippers to blow out, sturdy seams and lot of carrying options. A removable bladder / sleeve and bottle holsters lend to about 100oz of water carrying capacity (think the whole enchilada, palisade plunge, or pretty much any big enduro race). It was designed with stability, comfort, and simplicity front of mind. The name was picked because the pack is a water carrying machine and is a roll top closure, hence, The Whirlpool. Its wings are designed with as much area as we could get to help distribute the heavy water load. They are sewn in at two points per wing to give them the flexibility to move to the body of the rider. We also tilted the wings up some so the pack sits lower on the back. This helps when in a riding position, keeping the waist belt low. The daisy chain webbing on the back is the perfect spot to strap a coat, carabiner you coffee mug, or clip some sunscreen. You can also take you sunglasses and put the arms through the webbing if you need a place to let them air out.
SIZING AND CONFIGURATION:
We offer the Whirlpool in 4 different configurations. We are only releasing these three pack colors but customers can choose from 3 main buckle types as a custom option (side release, fidlock, cobra). Both the Black and Ranger Green come with orange liners and the Yellow comes with a Black liner.
Love my Whirlpool pack. Is great on the trails either biking or hiking. Carry’s water I need and any nutrition with the possibility for expanding to fit more(love that) Great quality bags and a great friendly company!
Bought the yellow whirlpool off the rack and put a hydration pack in. Have loved this for short and long haul rides. Love the rolltop and how I can be as low profile or big as needed depending on what layers I need to peel off. Super comfortable and doesn’t rub or bounce.
I made the fortunate mistake of swinging by the shop to see what new products Adam has come with since my last visit. I say mistake as I should know if I go in I’m going to buy something. Fortunately he had exactly what I’ve been looking for; a great hip pack with hydration ability so I can stop wearing a darn sweaty backpack. This hip pack is typical Adam design, that is to say freaking awesome and top notch quality. I absolutely love it! Fits hydration pack (or water bottles with added bottle pouch), tools, beer, jacket, the multitude of bandages and medical supplies I need for my sloppy riding, and even a flask to kill the pain after an encounter with the tree branch that I swear moved to hit me. This pack is great!
For my needs this bag is perfect. I just want to carry water, a jacket and a garmin inreach in it. All my tools are on the bike. With lots of gear it can be a challenge to get the water bladder in and out since it's a single compartment but I wouldn't change that, the pros of it outweigh the cons. Very comfortable on long days. Very stable on chunky double black diamonds & jumps. The only thing I might change is making zippered pockets on the hip belt and having the water bladder hose exit horizontally instead of vertically.
While the title of this review may seem a bit extreme, I can't reiterate how great this bag is. Internal organization pockets, bladder compatibility, and modular options to adjust the pack to your ride are all great features. But those features, combined with how well this bag rides (even with a heavier load) set it a step above the rest. It doesn't bounce around or get loose throughout the ride. If it's packed lightly, stuff isn't shifting in the bag due to the rolltop, and it gives extra space to overstuff for those long days in the alpine. Truly a great bag. All of our fabrics are water proof with the exception of waxed canvas. Because our bags are sewn, non of them are fully waterproof (albeit very very water resistant).
